Telepresence Activity Group

What We Do

The Telepresence AG focuses on improving the interoperability of Telepresence systems through open standards. The current focus of the group is to specify handling of multi-streaming multi-media as described below.

Objective - Define requirements and use cases for multi-streaming in Telepresence systems. The objective is to specify requirements and use cases for multi-streaming as input to Standards Development Organizations (SDO) such as IETF to standardize a multi-streaming solution.

Problem Statement - Currently Telepresence systems are not necessarily interoperable. While there exist standards for signalling, codecs, and transport necessary for multi-streaming, there are no guidelines on how to leverage those standards for an interoperable multi-screen solution, nor are there adequate standards that define a methodology for describing the relationships between multiple streams of media.

We will consider the use cases and requirements for Telepresence systems and craft an industry solution and standard for widespread adoption. An extensible solution is required that will support existing and envisioned use cases.

How We Work Together

  • Private e-mail reflector to exchange information and discuss issues.
  • Weekly conference calls to develop cases and requirements and create documents
  • Face-to-face meetings as required.
  • Participation is generally limited to IMTC members.

Liaison

The IMTC collaborates and has liaison relationships with several standards development organization. Learn about the liaison [add link] activities this group is maintaining with external organizations.
